Material & Applications

Why Carbon Steel A105: A105 is cost-effective for high-pressure service where temperatures don’t exceed 425°C. A350 LF2 is the low-temperature variant for service down to -46°C. The seal-welded bonnet provides superior high-pressure integrity compared to bolted designs.

Typical applications: Extreme high-pressure applications: HP bypass systems, high-pressure test manifolds, hydraulic systems, chemical injection, reactor feed lines, and supercritical boiler piping. Class 4500 is one of the highest-rated forged valve classes available.

Carbon Steel A105 Globe Valve FAQs

What is a seal-welded bonnet?
In Class 1500 and above, the body-to-bonnet joint is seal-welded instead of bolted. The bonnet is inserted into the body and a circumferential seal weld is applied. This provides added safety at extreme pressures where bolted joints may not be reliable. The weld must be ground and inspected before pressurisation.
What is the maximum pressure for Class 4500?
766 bar (11,110 psi) at ambient temperature for A105. At 425°C, the rating drops to 426 bar (6170 psi). Class 4500 is used in extreme high-pressure applications like HP heater drain systems, chemical injection, and test manifolds.
Is A350 LF2 available?
Yes. A350 LF2 is the low-temperature carbon steel variant, impact-tested for service down to -46°C. Same pressure ratings as A105 but suitable for cryogenic and cold-climate applications. Specify LF2 when minimum design temperature is below 0°C.
Does Class 4500 have a thrust bearing?
Yes, for NPS 1½ and NPS 2 in Class 4500, a thrust bearing is provided to reduce operating torque at extreme pressures. Smaller sizes (NPS ½ to 1) do not require a thrust bearing.
