KSB SICCA Check Valves — Overview

Check valves are critical safety components that prevent reverse flow in piping systems — protecting pumps, compressors, and process equipment from damage caused by backflow. KSB manufactures two types of check valves in the SICCA range: swing check valves (SCC) for larger line sizes with low pressure drop, and lift check valves (PCF) for small-bore high-pressure applications with positive spring-loaded closure.

As an authorized KSB dealer serving Pune, Ahmednagar and Beed, Johar Engineering supplies the complete SICCA check valve range — from standard bolted bonnet swing checks for sugar factory boiler feed lines, to pressure seal swing checks for power plant main steam, to forged lift checks for high-pressure instrument piping.

Key Design Features

  • Self-aligning free-floating valve disc (SCC) ensures tight shut-off without external alignment mechanisms
  • Internally mounted hinge pin (SCC, up to 12") reduces leakage risk by eliminating external penetration
  • Disc opens at low differential pressure — minimizes flow restriction and pressure drop across the valve
  • Dash pot arrangement available for NPS 14" and above (SCC) prevents disc slamming during rapid flow reversal
  • Spring-loaded check disc (PCF) provides positive, immediate closure regardless of flow velocity
  • SS 302/304 springs for standard service; XM750 (Inconel) springs for high-temperature Class 1500/2500/4500
  • Integral Stellite 6 hard-faced seat ring (PCF) — welded into body for permanent wear resistance
  • Lapped seat/disc interface for high-grade surface finish and zero-leakage shut-off
  • Fully confined cover gasket with controlled compression (SCC 150-600) for leak-proof bonnet joint
  • Streamlined flow path design minimizes pressure losses across the valve

Installation Notes

Swing check valves (SCC) should preferably be installed in horizontal pipes. When installed in vertical pipes, the flow direction must be upward so that the disc closes by its own weight when flow stops. Lift check valves (PCF) must be installed in horizontal pipes only — vertical installation is not permitted as the check disc could jam inside the body. All valve bodies are marked with a flow direction arrow.

KSB Check Valve FAQs

What KSB check valve models does Johar Engineering supply?
We supply three KSB SICCA check valve series: SICCA 150-600 SCC (cast steel swing check, BS 1868/API 594, Class 150–600, NPS 2–24"), SICCA 900-3600 SCC (cast steel pressure seal swing check, Class 900–3600, NPS 2–28"), and SICCA 800-4500 PCF (forged steel spring-loaded lift check, API 602, Class 800–4500, NPS ¼–2").
What is the difference between a swing check and a lift check valve?
A swing check (SCC) uses a hinged disc that swings open with forward flow and closes by gravity on reversal. It has low pressure drop and works in horizontal or vertical-upward pipes. A lift check (PCF) uses a spring-loaded disc for positive, immediate closure. It’s more responsive but must be installed horizontally only and has higher pressure drop. Swing checks suit larger line sizes; lift checks suit small-bore, high-pressure applications.
Are KSB check valves suitable for sugar factory applications?
Yes. The sugar industry is specifically listed by KSB as a primary application for SICCA check valves. Swing checks protect boiler feed pumps, prevent condensate backflow, and safeguard process piping in sugar and ethanol plants across Maharashtra.
What is the maximum pressure and temperature?
The forged PCF lift check reaches Class 4500 (776 bar / 11,250 psi) and 816°C in SS F304/F316. The pressure seal SCC swing check covers Class 900–3600 up to 650°C in C12A. Carbon steel WCB operates up to 425°C, alloy WC6 up to 593°C.
Do KSB check valves comply with Indian Boiler Regulations?
Yes. Both the SICCA 150-600 SCC and SICCA 900-3600 SCC (Standard Class) meet the Indian Boiler Regulations 1950 and PED 2014/68/EU.
Can I get KSB check valve datasheets?
Yes. Contact us for SICCA check valve type series booklets with complete P/T ratings, materials, dimensions, and weights for SICCA 150-600 SCC swing check and SICCA 800-4500 PCF lift check valves.
