Material & Applications

Why Cast Iron / Ductile Iron: EPDM liner provides excellent sealing for water, air, and dilute chemical service up to 120°C. The liner is replaceable in the field, extending valve life without replacing the entire valve. GGG40 ductile iron disc is the standard choice. CF8 (SS 304) or CF8M (SS 316) stainless steel disc is specified for corrosive water or chemical service where the disc material must resist the fluid.

Typical applications: Water treatment plants, water distribution networks, pumping stations, HVAC systems, irrigation, fire protection systems, cooling water circuits. The workhorse butterfly valve for utility and water service applications.

Cast Iron / Ductile Iron Butterfly Valve FAQs

What is a wafer butterfly valve?
A wafer body is sandwiched between two pipe flanges and held in place by the flange bolts passing through the pipe flanges (not through the valve body). This makes wafer valves lighter, more compact, and less expensive than flanged valves. Semi-lug design adds threaded inserts that allow one side to be unbolted for dead-end service.
Can I replace the liner without removing the valve?
The CDB-S has a replaceable liner design, but the valve body must be removed from the pipeline for liner replacement. The liner can then be replaced on-site without sending the valve to a workshop. This is significantly cheaper and faster than replacing the entire valve.
What liner for chemical service?
EPDM: water, air, dilute chemicals, alcohols. NBR (Nitrile): oils, hydrocarbons, fuels. FKM (Viton): aggressive chemicals, acids, solvents, high-temperature. Hypalon: chlorine, oxidizing chemicals, bleach. Contact us for specific chemical compatibility guidance.
What disc material for corrosive water?
For treated water with residual chlorine or chemicals, specify CF8M (SS 316) disc. For clean potable water, GGG40 (ductile iron) disc with epoxy coating is sufficient and more economical.
