Material & Applications

Why SS / Exotic Alloys Microflow: The 500:1 rangeability is extraordinary — a standard globe control valve offers 50:1, meaning the MIL 29000 can control flow accurately over a range 10x wider. The site-adjustable Cv allows the valve capacity to be fine-tuned after installation using a simple tool, without removing the valve from the pipeline. This eliminates the common problem of oversized control valves hunting at low loads. The rolling diaphragm actuator with force amplification provides the precise, sensitive positioning needed at ultra-low flow rates where standard diaphragm actuators lack the resolution.

Typical applications: Chemical dosing in water treatment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, catalyst injection in petrochemical reactors, sample conditioning systems, laboratory flow control, pilot plant process control, and any ultra-low-flow application where precise flow measurement and control are critical.

SS / Exotic Alloys Microflow Control Valve FAQs

What does 500:1 rangeability mean?
Rangeability is the ratio of maximum controllable flow to minimum controllable flow. A 500:1 rangeability means the valve can accurately control flow from its maximum Cv down to 1/500th of that value. For comparison: standard globe control valve = 50:1, V-notch ball = 300:1, MIL 29000 = 500:1. This makes the MIL 29000 suitable for applications where flow varies enormously — for example, chemical dosing that ranges from startup trickle to full production flow.
What is site-adjustable Cv?
The Cv (flow coefficient) of the MIL 29000 can be adjusted at the installation site using a simple tool, without removing the valve from the pipeline. This is unique — on standard control valves, changing Cv requires changing the trim, which means removing the valve and opening the body. Site-adjustable Cv allows fine-tuning to match actual process conditions after installation, which is critical for precision dosing applications where the theoretical Cv calculation may not match real-world behavior.
Why exotic alloys for a small valve?
Microflow applications are often in chemical dosing (corrosive chemicals like acids, caustics, oxidizers) or pharmaceutical manufacturing (high-purity requirements). The small size means the material cost premium is modest in absolute terms, even for exotic alloys like Hastelloy C or Monel 400. The cost of valve failure (chemical spill, product contamination, lost batch) far exceeds the alloy premium on a ½” valve.
